What are you looking for?

This is a new blog as you can see, myself and my partner are planning on doing this long term. What kind of things would you like us to do with this blog? Keep it to the allotment only or what we do with the produce when we get it home? 

Please leave a comment below with what you would like to see happen with this blog. We are interested in getting a good viewer base and have an active allotment community to bounce off. 

2nd day

Sorry that all these posts are coming out on the same day, just trying to get up to day.

So currently we don't have may tools, see blow the list of items we have

1. 1 fork
2. 1 spade
3. 1 watering can
4. 2 water carriers
5. 1 screw driver, found on the plot. 

So as you can tell we don't have much, we are planning on buying when we need it or when we see a good deal on Marktplaats (the dutch ebay).

These photos we took before we left on the second day, we noticed that we had a VERY over grown path. Couch grass growing out of it, so Mic continued with the digging and I got down removing the weeds and grass from the path.

We are not busting out backs to get this done, but taking our time. Having frequent breaks and chatting to the neighbours, enjoying this experience as it hard enough to break through dry soil. We are planning on planting the land up as we go along. We know we wont have much to grow this late in the season, but some winter crops will go in.

What type of crops would you advise for Aug planting?

The first day

The introduction

Hey all I am Ami, me and my partner (Mic) decided to start an allotment. There was a few reasons for deciding to do this.

1. Never having to buy veggies again.
2. We have an apartment and I wanted to get my fingers dirty
3. To get us out and about more. I was getting so pale from lack of sunlight I was looking ill:P.

It took us around 2 weeks to find us the right place. In the end we decided on a nice allotment in Baarn. 60 Euros a year, 5 Euros for membership (which we can use to get cheap items) also a 25 euro deposit which we will get back when we hand the plot back.


This is the photo we had of our plot when we first got there on the first day. We had the choice of two plots and this one we picked. It is a 10 pole (125 Square meter) size plot. At the top end of the plot there is an overgrown bush, nettles and a load of metal fencing which is overgrown by blind weed. Also there is a pile of overgrown black sand which will come in useful. We have decided to start from the front of the plot and work towards the back.

This is a photo of the plot after the first day. We spent around 3 hours there, checking soil, meeting the neighbours and starting to dig the land over. Quite hard going to start with as we was digging dry ground but then someone told us the method of watering the ground to dig. As you can tell we a total newbies at this :D

Everyone is welcome to give us tips as we are totally new to this and would be nice to get some conversation going. I will be trying to update this place every time we go to the allotment so 1 to 2 times a week over the winter.
